Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Software Engineering, Associate (Robotics Project) in either our Herndon, VA or Blacksburg, VA location.

Join our Technology and Engineering Strategic Delivery Center and support exciting projects in areas such as communications, space, cybersecurity, defense, health, and mobile. You'll have the opportunity to work in a collaborative, supportive environment, that allows you to grow your skills and your career while building experience in a variety of different projects and domains. You'll work in an Agile software development environment supporting areas such as requirements/story development, IT integration, cloud computing, DevSecOps, and automated testing.

The initial project assignment will be on an advanced research project helping us advance the future of human-robotics teams in national security missions. You will have the opportunity to develop prototype autonomous capabilities for mobile robots, manipulators, and multi-robot systems in areas such as perception, path planning, navigation, and manipulation and collaboration. You will contribute to the demonstration of distributed human-robot team collaboration in physical and simulated testbeds.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

    U.S. Citizenship.
  • BS/BA or MS/MA degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or related field with autonomy and robotics experience.
  • 0-4+ years of experience working as a software engineer.
  • Demonstrable experience performing robotics research and software development in simulation (e.g., Gazebo), laboratory, or field experiments.
  • Working knowledge of software (e.g., python, C++) relevant to robotics and autonomy.
  • Experience with embedded processors such as Jetson TX2s, optical cameras, lidar, software defined radios, or other sensors and peripherals.
  • Self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, responsible team-player with strong written and oral communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Exposure to Agile software development processes.
  • Experience employing the ROS 2 framework and its libraries (e.g., Nav2) for rapid prototyping.
  • Hands on experience with commercial-of-the-shelf robots such as TurtleBots and Clearpath.
  • Understanding of agent communication languages such as IEEE FIPA.
  • Exposure to Windows and Linux operating systems, database technologies, web application servers, and/or automated testing tools.
  • Familiarity with application or network installations, configuration, and/or administration.

Target Salary Range
$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
