The Opportunity

TC Energy's USGO Heartland, Rock River Valley Area team is currently seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our growing team based in New Windsor, Illinois. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent troubleshooting, problem solving, and communication skills.

Reporting to the Woodstock Area Manager, the Mechanical Technician will operate and maintain natural gas compression and auxiliary equipment in a manner that meets operational needs, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Including pipeline valves and valve operators.

What You'll Do

  • Locate and visually mark subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint and/or flags
  • Oversee and manage pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments
  • Complete required Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company documentation
  • Perform pipeline maintenance activities such as leak repair, clearing and inspection of right-of-way, and assisting with tie-ins of mainline valves
  • Maintain valves and valve operators
  • Perform pipeline locates through the one-call system
  • Patrol pipeline right-of-way and assist with leak surveys
  • Operate company truck
  • Operate compressor engines and support equipment
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects
  • Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain gas-fired reciprocating compressors, turbines, standby generator engines, centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, low pressure boilers, oil coolers, air compressors, large-bank cooler fans and gear boxes, large diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment
  • Assist in full or partial gas compressor overhauls, to include heads, pistons, rings, liners, pins, bushings, and bearings
  • Complete work orders, generate gas handling plans, LOTO Equipment and pipeline segments for maintenance enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a trades program, technical training from a recognized institution (i.e., Millwright, Heavy-Duty Mechanic, Machinist), or relevant work experience
  • Experience interpreting technical reference documents and reading drawings
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Experience locating and marking subsurface pipeline infrastructure
  • Must have a proven safe driving record and provide documentation of past traffic violations upon request, as well as maintain a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting combustion engines, centrifugal gas compressors and standby generators
  • Computerized maintenance management system and SAP experience
  • Knowledge of reciprocating compressors, turbines, and standby generators
  • Knowledge of regulators and/or meters
  • Industrial experience in a plant environment

This position requires candidate to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures and cramped conditions
